Fort Leads North to Victory Against Auburn
October 21, 2022
On Friday, September 30th, the Belvidere North football team took on the Auburn knights in
a week 6 showdown. North came into the game with an undefeated record and was looking to
continue that streak to improve to their sixth win in a row to be the first team in North’s history
to win their first six games. Auburn had a lot to prove coming into this game against North with
a record of just one win to their four losses.
North started the game hot starting off with two early rushing touchdowns in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Knights bounced back with two touchdowns of their own, but they
failed on both two point conversions. The game went into the half with a score of 14-12 favoring
North.
In the third quarter north pushes the pedal to the floor and scores 14 points to Auburn’s zero
extending their lead to 28-12. In the fourth quarter Auburn fights back with a touchdown but
fails another two point conversion keeping them behind by 10. Later in the fourth, North scored
another touchdown and put themselves up 35-18 heading into the end of regulation.
Senior running back Darius Fort rushed for 152 yards and scored three touchdowns in the
game, he plans to continue that momentum going into the last few weeks of the regular season.
I asked Fort how he felt after the game was over, “ We were excited and pumped up but only
wanted to get better from that game so we can be 7-0,” Fort said.
Belvidere North improved to a six game win streak for the first time in school history. Fort
and North’s football team will look forward to the next week when they take on the Hononegah
Indians in the week seven matchup and try to continue their winning streak against the five-win
team.
