The Belvidere North Varsity cheer team has had a very successful season so far. They have a record of 5-1 this season. They also claimed their seven peat at the NIC-10 conference competition last Thursday. The team is now done with all regular season competitions, and they are moving onto the state series.

Sectionals is the first competition in the state series. The only teams that advance to state are those that place in top five, and if there is a tie for 5th place, both tied teams get to move on. In the previous years, North has won sectionals three years in a row. The team this year is hoping to get a four peat.

Belvidere North is one of the host sites this year. The competition is held this Saturday, January 27,at North. North goes at 10:44 am, and they are the last ones in their division. Other coed teams there that they will be going against include: Woodstock, Mundelein, Larkin, South Elgin, Warren, Streamwood, Rockford East, Rockford Guilford, Grant, Aurora East, Elgin, Belvidere, and Lakes. A list that shows what time all the teams compete is https://www.tourneywire.com/cheer/public-order-cheer.php?tournid=418.

The varsity team has a lot of competition this weekend, but this is the big moment they have been working for since April. The two teams that normally place high at state that will be attending North’s sectional is Grant and South Elgin. If the team gets top five, then they will be attending the state competition in Bloomington on February 2nd and 3rd. There they will be aiming for another state championship title.
