The girls swimming and diving team has had a solid season so far.

The varsity team consists of fourteen swimmers; Alaina Coen (‘20), Haley Dahl (‘19), Sarah Fitzgerald (‘19), Emerson Gaines (‘21), Mikayla Gavina (‘20), Sarah Johnson (‘21), Madeline McClain (‘21), Cheyenne McGriff (‘20), Abby Muck (‘22), Dellana Muck (‘22), Maggie O’Brien (‘22), Sarah Palik (‘19), Alyssa Peterson (‘20), Sydney Wight (‘20).  The junior varsity and freshman team also has swimmers with great potential.

The team’s success comes from the work and effort they put into their practices.

“We’ve been having a great season and a lot of it goes to our amazing coaches. They are always pushing us to be the best we can be.  At practices we put in a lot of hard work which shows at our meets,” said Sarah Johnson (‘21).

Last weekend the girls competed at sectionals, which was held at Byron high school.  The girls took fifth place overall and achieved the goal of keeping the 100 back to back sectional champ title.

“It was a great season with even better teammates.  My teammates continued to push me at every practice and all the meets.  Mid season when I was at volleyball at the same time, I made sure to give 100% to each sport.  Time flew by and it was sectionals, here I had my first three events. I dropped a lot of time throughout the first three but not enough to get to the top.  By the last race I was still optimistic and thankfully it helped me perform well and achieve my goal of keeping the 100 back to back sectional champ title” said Mikayla Gavina (‘20).

Since it is one of the longest fall sports around, the girls swimming and diving ends in the middle of november after the girls come back from state.  Last year, unfortunately, the girls were not able to place at state. This year the girls have high hopes of achieving their all of their personal goals and mainly placing at state.

Make sure to go show support and cheer on the girls as they compete at state, which is taking place at New Trier High School on November 16-17.
