After placing 4th overall at sectionals, which earned him the title of Athlete of the Week here at Belvidere North, wrestler Trevor Dawson (‘20) advanced to the IHSA State Final at State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. Making it that far is a huge accomplishment, and is a great way to end the season for Dawson, who went 24-10 in matches before the state tournament. Unfortunately, he didn’t win either of his matches at the tournament, losing the first match to Garrett St. Clair of Waubonsie Valley High School by a decision of 5-3, which was followed up by a loss to Brady Fisher of Yorkville High School, who won by fall in 4:39. It is a bit of an underwhelming result for Dawson, but regardless, making it all the way to the state tournament is no small feat. Luckily, this wasn’t Dawson’s last chance at qualifying for the state final. He still has next year to advance this far again, and hopefully next season we can write that Dawson made it farther than he did this year.
