Wrestlers at state

Anthony Espensen

Belvidere’s Co-op wrestling team was undefeated in the NIC-10 Conference. This is the best season North has had since the school opened in 2008.  Some key wrestlers are Trevor Dawson (‘20), representing North in the 220LB weight division and Devin Diveley (‘21), in the 152LB weight division. Eathin Diveley (‘22), wrestles for North’s 160LB weight division and has been a leader amongst the younger wrestlers. Tony Alvarado(23’) has been having an incredible freshman season as his record for the season is 31-2. Alvarado might be the youngest wrestler on varsity but sure does not act that way. He is a huge contributor to the teams winning record.

The NIC-10 conference match took place February 1st. Belvidere, coming in as the number one seed traveled down to Freeport for what could’ve been some of the wrestlers final matches. The team however couldn’t finish out their flawless season. They ended up taking second place behind the Freeport Pretzels. The team however did have individual success, freshman Tony Alvarado took First place in the 126LB weight division. This win continued Alvarados dominance. Junior Devin Dively also took first in the 152LB weight division.

On February 8 The team traveled to Huntley for the Regional tournament. The team had seven wrestlers compete. Eathin Dively and Presley Beasley (BHS) took first place in their divisions. Tony Alvarado and Trevor Dawson took second in their weight class as well. Taking third, was Jake Palmer (‘21) (BHS), Josh Pizano (‘20)(BHS), and Caden Lendman  (‘22). All of these wrestlers will be advancing to the sectional match next weekend. Good Luck to all our wrestlers, Roll Thunder.

Wrestler Tony Alvarado was the only wrestler to qualify for state. He competes this weekend in the 126LB weight class.
