The life of Kobe Bryant

Anthony Espensen

Kobe ‘Bean’ Bryant was born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father was Joe Bryant who was a Former NBA player for the Philadelphia 76ers. Kobe had basketball in his blood from day one, it was no surprise that he turned into the Player he was. Kobe began playing basketball at the age of three and became a Laker fan, His favorite player was Magic Johnson. When Kobe turned six his father’s NBA career had ended, but he wanted to continue to play. So he moved the family to Italy where he continued his career there. Bryant adapted to the culture quickly and became fluent in Italian. During his summers he would come and play AAU in the United States to stay at the top of his game.

The family however moved back to the United states when it was time for Kobe to start High school. They moved back home to Philadelphia where Kobe would attend Lower Merion high school. Kobe was the first Freshman in years to start for the school. The team struggled that year posting only four wins. The following three years the team had a combined record of 77-13. Bryant averaged over 30 points a game his Junior year and over ten rebounds. He was named the Pennsylvania player of the year. After his Junior year he started drawing National attention from some of the best programs in the nation. He drew looks from schools like Duke, Michigan, and North Carolina. However Villanova was at the top of his list. But when he saw Kevin garnett go directly to the NBA a year before him it quickly changed his mind.

Kobe Decided to make the jump directly to the NBA, he was drafted with the 13th pick overall by the Charlotte Hornets but was sent to the Los angeles Lakers in a multi team trade, and the Rest is History. Kobe went on to Lead the Lakers to 5 NBA championships. He holds a record for most first team all NBA selections, 15. He also holds a record for first team All defense, 12. He also has two NBA scoring titles, won a dunk contest, and 4 Allstar game MVPs in 18 appearances! Needless to say Kobe is one of the greatest to ever play.

Kobe Bryant passed away January 26, 2020 in a Helicopter crash in Calabasas California. On board was his daughter Giana and seven other passengers, there were no survivors. Kobe Bryant is a great Basketball player but an even greater man. If there is anything we can learn from his time on Earth is to always be kind and to work extremely Hard. R.I.P. to a Legend.
